Supporting virtual care innovation

Houston, we have a problem solution! 🚀

We are over the moon to announce the recipients of our Innovation Initiatives grant! 2020 was a transformative year for our sector. While virtual care was considered a “nice to have” a few years ago, it’s now a must-have to support children, young people and families during and after the pandemic. That’s why we set out on an evaluation project with Children’s Mental Health Ontario to probe the process of implementing virtual care and the impacts on clients and service providers alike.

We learned about what was working well and what wasn’t and developed several recommendations to help us as we explore this new frontier together. We took one small step for virtual care and supported innovators in our sector to take the giant leap and shoot for the moon!

We are thrilled to announce the projects that will be exploring and advancing virtual care in the child and youth mental health sector in Ontario – and beyond:

  • Delivery of mental health services for Ontario young people using CBT in virtual reality (led by Pathstone Mental Health)
  • Virtual psychoeducation group for young people with substance use and mental health challenges (led by Rideauwood Addiction and Family Services)
  • Asynchronous virtual DBT for young people (led by the London Family Court Clinic)
  • Using evidence to connect children, young people and families to effective in-person, virtual or blended care (led by Crossroads Children’s Mental Health Centre)
  • Improving access to child and youth mental health services: Does virtual care make a difference? (led by EveryMind Mental Health Services)
